Subject purpose and curriculum
We have taken as our starting point the state's, and including the Ministry of Education's, objectives and guiding guidelines and learning objectives for basic educational content, so that we ensure that mandatory and important learning is the framework for the teaching and is appropriate for the age level. The curriculum has been updated to 2024 and is thus ensured of the latest knowledge and methods. We have also compiled the curriculum overview for you, so that you can keep up with what you should be able to do. We refer to the description of the subject's objectives and the full curriculum overview here:
Insight into French language and culture
With School To Go, children learn to use French in practical situations while gaining insight into the culture of the French-speaking world. We strengthen both linguistic awareness and intercultural understanding, which prepares children to use French in both national and international contexts.
From beginner level to advanced speaking
Our home French lessons build children's language skills from beginner to more advanced levels through practical and cultural topics such as:
Basic vocabulary and topics: We start with topics like colors, animals, numbers, and food. Children learn to describe themselves, their pets, their favorite activities, and their everyday routines in French.
Culture and Leisure: Children are introduced to French traditions, holidays and everyday life in France and other French-speaking countries. We cover topics such as Paris and French cultural icons, as well as differences between the traditions of French-speaking countries.
Family and Friends: Children will learn to talk about their family and friends in French and to describe their leisure activities and interests. They will also learn vocabulary to describe their surroundings, such as their room and school.
Numbers and Time: Children will learn to count in French and to describe the seasons and weather. They will work with time and dates, as well as learn to talk about their daily routines.
Grammar and language structures: Focus on grammatical elements such as gender (masculine, feminine), number (singular/plural), and conjugations of common verbs. Children also work on descriptions using adjectives and adverbs.
Food and Drink: Children will learn to describe meals and food items in French, how to order food in a café or restaurant, and gain insight into French food traditions.
City and Geography: Children will learn about the geography of French-speaking countries and will gain vocabulary to describe cities, roads and public places. They will learn about cities like Paris and their cultural significance.
Online life: Through the theme 'online life', children learn to use French in contexts such as social media, email and other digital forms of communication. The focus is also on safety and etiquette on the internet.
