Subject purpose and curriculum
We have taken as our starting point the state's, and including the Ministry of Education's, objectives and guiding guidelines and learning objectives for basic educational content, so that we ensure that mandatory and important learning is the framework for the teaching and is appropriate for the age level. The curriculum has been updated to 2024 and is thus ensured of the latest knowledge and methods. Practical crafts and creativity
In the craft & design subject, School To Go combines practical learning with creative projects that engage children in both traditional crafts and modern technologies.
The teaching emphasizes developing both technical skills and a deeper understanding of the role of design in society and in relation to sustainability. In addition, we introduce modern digital tools and sustainable design principles.
A wide range of materials, tools and techniques
The children learn to work with a wide range of materials and tools and develop both an aesthetic and functional understanding of the design process. Including:
Materials and tools: Children are introduced to different types of materials such as fabric, wood, metal and their properties. They learn to use both traditional craft tools such as sewing machines, saws and screwdrivers as well as modern technologies such as 3D printing and digital design programs.
Traditional and modern techniques: Classes cover classic craft techniques such as sewing, knitting and crocheting, while children explore modern techniques such as 3D printing and programmable electronics. They learn to combine different materials and techniques to create innovative products.
Sustainability and Design: A focus area is sustainable design, where children learn about recycling, upcycling, and sustainable materials in both fashion and product design. This creates an understanding of responsible production and environmental impact in the design process.
Colors and Creativity: Children work with color theory and learn about the color wheel, color psychology, and how colors can be used in design to create certain moods and aesthetic expressions. They also develop their own creativity through mood boards and personal design projects.
Patterns and Cultures: We introduce children to different patterns from cultures around the world, such as Islamic geometric patterns, Native American designs, and African textile patterns, expanding their cultural understanding and aesthetic perspective.
Design and Presentation: Children learn to present their design projects, receive and give constructive feedback, and reflect on their own and others' work. They develop their ability to evaluate both aesthetics and functionality in design.
