Subject purpose and curriculum overview
We have taken as our starting point the state's, and including the Ministry of Education's, objectives and guiding guidelines and learning objectives for basic educational content, so that we ensure that mandatory and important learning is the framework for the teaching and is appropriate for the age level. The curriculum has been updated to 2024 and is thus ensured of the latest knowledge and methods. We have also compiled the curriculum overview for you, so that you can keep up with what you should be able to do. Development of musical understanding
Through practical and theoretical musical activities, we engage children and help them develop their musical skills and understanding. This gives children a deeper understanding of music as both an art form and a cultural activity.
In the lessons we will explore different musical genres, instruments and musical cultures from around the world.
Explore the musical world
Together, we delve into topics such as:
Basic musical concepts: Children are introduced to notes, rests, rhythms and measures, and gain an understanding of dynamics, pulse and musical form. This gives them a strong foundation for reading and creating music.
Instrument knowledge: Children learn about classical and modern instruments, their sounds and their role in different musical contexts. They explore stringed instruments, wind instruments and electronic instruments.
Singing and Voice: Focusing on singing technique, breathing, and polyphonic singing. Children develop their ability to interpret songs and present musical pieces with choreography and performance.
Music from different cultures and time periods: Children explore musical cultures from around the world; from African rhythms to European classical music and modern popular music. They also learn about different musical periods such as the Baroque, Romantic and Modern eras.
Musical Creation and Composition: Children work on creating their own compositions, both through improvisation and planning. They learn about melody and harmony, and arrange music for small ensembles.
Music and Technology: Introduction to music production, sound recording, and the use of music software. Children learn to create and produce music using modern technologies and digital tools.
Music analysis and listening skills: Children are trained in active listening and musical analysis, where they learn to identify themes, motifs and musical structures. They analyze different pieces of music and develop their skills in musical criticism.
Music and Society: We explore music as social commentary and the role of music in political movements. Children learn about protest music and how music can reflect and influence societal debate.
